Rapids FH is a USA FH partner club. As such, we allow appropriately skilled players to play up one age group where it benefits both the player’s immediate & long-term development.
USA FH determines U group by age a player is as of 12/31 each year for the following year, i.e. if a player is 10 on 12/31, she is U12 for the following year. Most of the indoor season takes place after 12/31 so all players are invited to join the squads appropriate to their age level for 2019.
U10 is for players born on or after 1/1/2009
U12 is for players born between 1/1/2007 – 12/31/2008
U14 is for players born between 1/1/2005 – 12/31/2006
U16 is for players born between 1/1/2002 – 12/31/2004
U19 is for players born between 1/1/2000 – 12/31/2002
All Rapids players are required to have current USA FH memberships. Click on Join USA FH to get or renew your membership. Please do this prior to squad selection. USA FH membership information is a required part of indoor registration.
U12 & younger annual membership is $25
U14-U19 annual membership is $50
If you’re membership is set to expire before the end of the outdoor season, please renew it.
Practices begin on Sunday, Sep 1st, 2019 for all travel squads from 6-8 pm . Skills practices will be on Tuesday evenings. Season end date is dependent on last play date. U12 & U14 will attend conditioning on Thursday evenings in Reston.
Teams are scheduled to play in KOA's DMV league with games every Saturday in Rockville, MD starting about mid-Sep and going into late or end of October.
What Fall College Showcases will be available for Rapids?
We have a premier college recruiting showcase tournament available for U14, U16 & U19 this Fall. This event is great for getting your name, profile and play out there to explore playing in college. Attending these events does not commit you to playing in college.
U14s, U16s & U19s Fall Recruiting Squads will attend Thanksgiving Shooting Star in Richmond Fri 11/29-Sun 12/1. Event is 11 v 11. Fee is $300 and includes practices and tournament fee for 5 fifty-minute games.

Fall fee for U10 is $300. U12 & U14 is $500 and will include practices and conditioning.
Evolution squad price for U10, U12 & U14 is $275 for training for 7 weeks. Evolution players are strongly encouraged to play in our rec program while training.
Need based scholarships are available for free and reduced price lunch students as well as in a case by case basis dependent on circumstances, ex. job loss, family illnesses, etc

Squad Selections & Size
Squads will be at usually be at least 9-10 field players and goalies for 7 v 7 games.
What is the timeline for squad selections and player response?
Coaches send squad selections to Rapids Commissioner within 3 days after tryouts.
Players will be notified of squad invitation within 5 days from tryout.
Our assumption is that players are attending tryouts because they want to make a team.
Please be ready to accept your invitation and register for the season within 2 days of being selected.
How are refund requests handled? We understand that sometimes things happen beyond someone’s control.
The club uses League Athletics as its registration system. League Athletics is currently partnering with AIG to offer Regsaver insurance. The cost is 7% of the registration fee. It must be selected as part of the initial registration. We encourage families who believe there could be an issue to purchase this insurance. Details regarding the insurance and what it covers are available during squad registration.
The club allows a full refund minus $25 administrative costs for 3 days after registering.
The club prices squads for an average of 10 players for 7 v 7 squads and 15 players for 11 v 11 squads. If a coach believes a squad can operate successfully with less than the above number with qualified players, we will at times do so. We are not able to provide refunds for squads with more than 10 and nor do we charge additional for players with less than 10.
We are not able to provide refunds beyond 3 days. The club incurs costs once players register to play to prepare for a season’s operational expenses including but not limited to renting facilities, hiring coaches, purchasing equipment, insurance and supplies. Once a player accepts a spot, we begin committing to resources and making purchases. Facilities which is one of the largest expenses in a season (other than paying coaches) must be paid for months in advance of use. Club travel teams participate in competitive play. Players cannot be replaced without potentially changing the skill composition of the team.
Rapids has a new uniform design being introduced for the summer season. Uniform is fully customized with sublimated colors, player last name, graduation year and uniform number. Uniform pieces include a home jersey, an away jersey and a skirt. Players will need to purchase a skirt, a pair of both white and royal socks separately to be worn with the uniform. We bring sample uniforms to all tryouts for new players to try on.
Uniforms take 6 weeks from approved proof to be manufactured and another week for shipping.
Uniform orders are placed once for each season.
All players are required to order uniforms as part of their player squad registration. Cost for the uniform is $155 plus tax.
Rapids has Spirit Wear including player jackets & fan gear once a season. For the fall oudoor season, the store will be open on Jun 9th for approximately 10 days. Our vendor needs time to process all orders for delivery in time to be worn and enjoyed during the season. All Spirit Wear orders are optional. Players & families are not required to purchase anything.
